“There are no absolute good or evil.”

Refusing to be hypocrites, even as the secular world deems us not righteous, we stand in our authenticity, offered to be appreciated or teased, provoking thoughts, asking the audience to reflect together with us!

Antinomyis the core of our creative work, we focus on the relationship between contradictions and symbiosis in the world through the study of the dark side of human nature. Reverse thinking paves the way to our quest for the spirit of truth and virtue. Instead of searching for the absolute truth in theatre, audiences are invited into multiple dimensions of contemplation in the process of questioning.

Colour, Sex, Nudity, Violenceare the four key elements of our aesthetic direction, together with our witty black humour, intense visual simulation in forms of physical theatre, multimedia and stage effects, tacit, unsaid realities are exposed in front of the eyes of the audience.

Our Origin

Artocrite Theatre, founded by six enthusiastic graduates of the School of Drama of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2010, began as a project-based theatre group. Since 2020, the company runs as a non-profit-making charity organisation under the recognition of the Inland Revenue Ordinance section 88, and had since then been presented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department and received various subsidies from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

In 2016, the company gained wide public and industrial recognition and appreciation when An Angel Dumped into New City, a joint production with The Whole Theatre Limited, won five awards at the 25th Hong Kong Drama Awards. From 2016 to 2019, the “Awakening Series” trilogy Sin, The Truth from Liar and Eve had received several awards and nominations at the 26th and 29th Hong Kong Drama Awards, the 9th and 12th Hong Kong Theatre Libre Awards, and the 2016 IATC (HK) Critics’ Awards.

The company launched its first overseas performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the United Kingdom and Seoul, South Korea in 2017–18. Me and Sailor Moon in a Subway Trip was a joint collaboration between artists from Hong Kong, Japan and Seoul, and was widely reported by the local media when it premiered at the Namsan Arts Centre.

Incorporated in 2020, Artocrite Theatre is now a full-time and professional theatre company aspiring to share its beliefs and productions with a wider audience in the global community.

From 2023 to 2025, the Venaissance series together with other productions were highly recognized in the industry, received multiple awards and nominations at the 32th and 33th Hong Kong Drama Awards, the 15th and 16th Hong Kong Theatre Libre Awards, the 2023 and the 2024 IATC (HK) Critics’ Awards. The particularly popular one I am Tree has won five Hong Kong Drama Awards (alongside five other nominations), and three Hong Kong Theatre Libre Awards (alongside two other nominations).Grateful for the love from audience and peers, the company is excited to continue the hard work and create the next great production.
